Amends and accepts 0080. The translation providers are
ADR 0236.
Context
0080 (Proposed) ported i18n and left the workflow open. The owner’s answers PP10, PP11 and LO1 (mem L825, L562, 2026-10-20) fix the translation workflow, the Arabic defaults and where UI strings live.Decision
- Workflow (PP10). English catalogues are the source. A steward pre-translates into other languages. A native Arabic reviewer approves Arabic. Tolgee is added at the third locale. The connectors are ADR 0236.
- Digits (PP11). Latin digits are the default. Arabic-Indic digits are optional.
- Calendar (PP11). Gregorian is the default. Hijri is optional.
- Storage (LO1). UI strings stay in the i18n catalogues, not in a separate store.
Consequences
- An Arabic string is reviewed by a native speaker before it ships, so pre-translation is a draft.
- Digits and calendar are user settings, so the defaults do not force a choice on anyone.
Enforcement
planned — the catalogue check fails a locale with missing keys in CI; the Arabic review status is a field in the catalogue.Alternatives
- Machine translation without review: rejected by PP10.
