Amends 0001: the config format rule below applies to every repository file.

Context

Repository config was a mix of JSON, JSONC and YAML. The owner decided on 2026-10-20 (PR #30, STA-147; mem L363–366) to use YAML wherever the tool reads it, keep JSONC only where the tool has no YAML support, and drop .infisical.json.

Decision

  1. YAML first. Repository config is YAML wherever the reader supports YAML.
  2. Converted. models.yaml and .mcp.yaml (which renders .mcp.json) are YAML. .infisical.json is dropped; .infisical.yaml is the real CLI file.
  3. JSONC where YAML is unsupported. turbo, oxlint, oxfmt, knip and opencode stay JSONC. They are listed in MUST_STAY_JSONC.
  4. Strict JSON only where comments are impossible. Those files are listed in MUST_STAY_JSON.

Consequences

  • An agent reads one format for each file type, and the validator names the exceptions.
  • runbooks/secrets.mdx no longer mentions .infisical.json (final pass).

Enforcement

planned — pnpm validate checks the exception lists against each file’s extension.
